Collaboration: We foster collaborative efforts with partners, customers, and industry leaders, exchanging knowledge and advancing together. It's really just candy, apple and ethanol, and it's pretty right down the middle with that. Again, not offensive, but not really that good. And it's crazy to me that the Benchmark Top Floor was 10 times as complex as this.Candy corn, caramel corn, vanilla, nuts, grain and a touch of oak and spice. The palate is more muted than the aroma, but there’s nothing offensive going on so there’s nothing to get too worked up about. Palate: The orange scent comes through on my tongue in the form of a concentrated orange oil. There’s also baking spices with cinnamon leading the way with a nice sweetness and oily texture on my tongue. The tannins have calmed down from the nose. Brad: Alright everybody, today we are drinking Benchmark Single Barrel, a 95-proof whiskey in this lineup of five that we've been drinking the last few weeks. Proof.Scents of subtle sweetness and baking spice are followed by light citrus, butterscotch, and oak flavors. 4) Benchmark Single Barrel As mentioned above, Benchmark Bourbon is owned by the Sazerac Company and distilled at their Buffalo Trace Distillery. Tasting Notes
What sets Benchmark Bourbon apart is our relentless pursuit of perfection. With decades of experience in the industry, our dedicated team of master distillers has honed their skills to create a bourbon that is rich, smooth, and bursting with complexity. The distinctive flavor profile of Benchmark Bourbon is a result of our unique recipe, which combines the finest corn, rye, and malted barley in precise proportions. In August of this year, Buffalo Trace quietly released a revamped lineup of their bottom-shelf staple, Benchmark Bourbon. For years, Benchmark wore no age statement and was watered down to a measly 80 proof. This is a perfectly good sweet, fruity and oaky bourbon. Extremely enjoyable and well integrated. It’s only faults are that it misses some complexity and depth. Blind Glass 2
McAfee’s Benchmark Old No. 8 Bourbon Info
The Benchmark Bourbon recipe is a blend of rye whiskey that was created by the McAfee brothers (James, Robert, and George). This label is another example of how the distillery has honored its history. And with this one, not only is it crying out for help, but I feel like I have heartburn. I feel like I need a Tums after this because of the way that it is just camping out in my chest. Usually for me, Buffalo Trace products present as a little oakier than they are ethanol, but, this one is just really heavy on the alcohol-forwardness. Once distilled, the maturation process begins, during which the bourbon ages in charred oak barrels, absorbing the distinct notes of vanilla, caramel, and spice. The master distillers closely monitor the aging process, allowing the whiskey to develop its layers of flavor over time. The final stage involves the skilled art of blending, where different aged bourbons are harmoniously combined to create the signature taste that Benchmark Bourbon is renowned for. The precise ratios and considerations of each batch ensure consistency while allowing the whiskey to evolve with each new expression. There wasn’t much surprise on this one because I’d expect a bottle that’s priced twice as much and aged twice as much to have the better score. The final tally shows that this ended up being the case. All of that isn’t to say that the Benchmark is a slouch though! On the contrary, I was quite surprised that Buffalo Trace didn’t try to shove an incomplete, hot mess of a bourbon into the market just to make a cash grab.
Buffalo Trace rums and whiskeys are the very best of their kind worldwide. They are the world leaders in distilling. Benchmark Whiskey Review: While the Stitzel-Weller Distillery closed its doors in 1972, Benchmark Bourbon continued to be crafted using the original recipe handed down through generations. This robust and bold bourbon is bottled at 125-proof. It has a deep chocolate and brown sugar smell that’s followed by a taste of baking spice and caramel. Benchmark Small BatchBrad: But it feels like 95 is a long way off from wherever this barrel was. That's my issue with it. Rich and complex notes: From the first sip to the last, you’ll discover a symphony of flavors, including hints of caramel, vanilla, oak, and just a touch of spice. But Buffalo Trace, not being content until they’re the best at everything, decided that they needed to corner the bottom shelf market even more by introducing new expressions of this lowly shelf turd by invigorating some age and proof into the mix. Experience the rich complexity of Benchmark’s aged blends, where deep layers of flavors unfold with every taste.
